I like Joel and Joyce! I have to say that when I was going to catholic church and really struggling with my lack of a relationship with Jesus (even though I was doing all the catholic stuff like I was "suppose" to be doing), I happened to come across Joyce Meyer on tv and heard stuff I had never heard in my 30 years as a catholic like, "Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with ME," and "God is not disappointed with me," etc. Those ideas started me searching for something more. Who knows how many people they have introduced Jesus too. Plus a lot of their money comes from book sales, speaking tours, etc. Why shouldn't they benefit from their work. I'm sure they all give a lot of their money away too. If I were rich, I don't think I wouldn't live so ostentatiously. I hope I wouldn't anyway. It does seem excessive. But maybe God is blessing them and favoring them. Abraham had a lot of stuff too!

Here is a blog I posted a few years back stating how much they make. http://danthoms.blogspot.com/2008/08/how-much-does-televangelist-make.html

Rick Warren is the ideal. He gives away 90% of his income and receives no salary from his church.

Yeah, I remember that post and Rick Warren is definitely the ideal.

That's just disgusting. Especially, when you consider they solicit money from a LOT of people who are watching them on TV, eating their TV dinners, or soup, while sitting on the couch of their 1400 sq ft house....thinking they're actually "helping" someone less fortunate than themselves.
Thankfully, these believers rewards will be in Heaven, when they are recognized for their contributions-not to the Televangelists desires, but to their own belief and faith that they are doing Gods work.

That's why I enjoy their message, especially Joyce, but I give my money directly to the people that God sends my way.

In my opinion they could give away a bit more of theirs, however I'm not the judge of their heart. So I'll try hard not to covet their blessings instead.

I think it's OK to have wealth. To me it's about how it is acquired and how it is used. My question is what money is paying for all this stuff? If it is book sales and what have you, that is one thing, but if they are using donations to their ministries to acquire all this junk then that's just plain wrong. That is what turns my stomach. It's not that I don't like some of these folks, Joel and Joyce have both written good books. But If I remember correctly, Joyce Meyer Ministries was in trouble for tax fraud or evasion some years ago as well.

Did you ever stop to think that if Joyce Meyer received $1.00 for each book she sold over the years she would have enough money to do whatever she wants with it . I think last count was like over 30 millions books in print .And they all sell books and cd's and dvd's etc .Except Creflo Dollar who says very little about money .EVER ! Come on people . Give them a break .If they are mis-using funds then God will take care of it . After all it is His money .

OH MY GOODNESS! THESE PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SHEPHERDS TO GODS PEOPLE..YET THE WAY THEY LIVE IS NOT BIBLICAL. IF ANYTHING THEY ARE RUBBING GOD'S FACE IN THE DIRT MORE THAN THEY ARE TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO LIVE LIKE TRUE CHRISTIANS. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE BEING LED ASTRAY BECAUSE OF PEOPLE PREACHING PROSPERITY GOSPEL AND WE AS CHRISTIANS NEED TO STAND UP FOR GOD AND HIS WORD AND QUIT LETTING PEOPLE LIKE JOEL OSTEEN TWIST SCRIPTURE AND TURN IT INTO SOME "GOD WANTS US TO LIVE LAVISHLY" LIE.

They became wealthy because people felt they needed to hear what they had to say. I listened to Joyce Meyers because I had some stuff to work through with an unusual childhood. If you do not agree with the amount and use of the money they receive, do not give them any and help others to realize they can go straight to the bible themselves and pray just about any where, and best of all, it is totally free to do and will yield wealth of character, that is better than money since the character of some will last for eternity.

Fran, I left the Catholic church and became Born again Charsmatic too. After30 years of studying the bible I realized the truth is in the Catholic Church! Now I'm a Charsmatic Catholic Christian. There's a whole army of us out there! Read about some in Surprised by the Truth, written by Patrick Madrid.

Study the life of Jesus. Study the lives of the Apostles. Study the lives of the 1st century Christians, some who were taught by the Apostles. Like Ignatius of antioch and Polycarp who were diciples of the Apostle John. Or Clement who was taught by the Apostle Peter. Get to know all these men well. Then look at the prosperity pimps who live lives of gluttony and comfort.
