This is Only a Test

I design signs for a living. It's not really to exciting but most of life isn't. Along with all of the other signs I design, I design quite a few church signs. When I design a sign it is important to put the most pertinent information the largest. Therefor when I design a church sign I like to make the pastors name small. The smaller the better. This is also an interesting test of sorts since it is usually the churches pastor who is ordering the sign. Will they ask me to increase the size of their name, and if so by how much? It may be wrong, but whenever a pastor tells me to make their name dramatically bigger, I tend to form a negative opinion about their church. What do you think?

I think I would have a negative impression of someone who wants their name really big. Our pastor's name isn't even on our sign, is it?

You're right. That does look wrong. I don't I would go there if he had his name on it.

The pastor is besides him self the sign says if his name is in large print.

Is it your place to test them?
I try to tip in cash even when I pay with a CC in order to let the server have the dilemma on whether or not they claim their cash tips for tax purposes.

That's very interesting, Dan. I will admit that I do form a negative opinion of churches whose signs boast their pastor's name in large print. We are supposed to be putting God on display, not ourselves.

I think you should be a servant, do whatever they ask for, and reserve judgment. Its not your place to judge a man by the size of his name. Its not our place to judge anyone or anything.

hmmmm, it may not be our place to judge, but I too would be leery of a sign like that. When is it judgement, and when is it discernment? I sure don't know.

Take a look at my site, to see another sign that I'm still struggling with...

I think that's a pretty interesting thing to do...Sort of a sociology experiment... :) I don't know the reasons why it is important to have the pastor's name up there...Might be a good question to ask one of them next time they come in?

I kind of thing the Urmston Vineyard would be cool...Maybe Vineyard UrmstonDetzel of the Westside....

Today I saw a sign like the one Nick mentioned!

I thought to myself, I must go home and make a comment on Dan's blog to let him know that signs like that really do exist.

Whew. I feel better now.

Large print? I wouldn't attend a church that had the pastor's name on the sign, no matter the size.
